This session will address the nature of “service animals” and Emotional Support Companion Animals under Michigan law. We will discuss the “interactive process” for Association and Boards to follow. Service Animals and Emotional Support Companion Animals are not pets!

This class will examine recent amendments to the Nonprofit Corporation Act and rulings from the Michigan Court of Appeals to illuminate what value Robert’s Rules of Order or other parliamentary procedure have for Associations and Boards.

Accommodations and Civil Rights Pt. II
This session will address the proper process for requesting an accommodation, what types of accommodations must be allowed, and who bears the expenses.
Wednesday, November 7, 2018 – Stacia Miller
Board Policies and Bylaw Restrictions Guidance
This session will explore the difference between Board policies, bylaws, and rules and regulations. We will discuss the parameters and considerations for creating legal, enforceable and compassionate policies. Additionally, we will discuss the consequences of “bad” policies or “good” policies that are not enforced.

Marijuana (post-election update)
We will discuss the differences between State and Federal laws, their enforcement, and options for associations. We will attempt to clear the haze by discussing the direction the laws are taking, including recent voting results and options for Boards moving forward.
